Juniors Division Reach State Final Four

Updated Monday July 17, 2017 by Grafton Little League.

After Grafton Little League's Junior Division All Stars won the District 5 Championship in dramatic fashion over Charlton 11-9 on July 9, the team immediately opened play in the State Sectional Tournament on July 9 on the road against South Plymouth. This is a double elimination tournament.

Game 1 vs Plymouth: While Grafton's bats kept the team in the game the defense wasn't as sharp and many errors were committed in the eventual 11-7 loss. Grafton rallied to tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the sixth but then gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the inning. Jackson Lee led Grafton's attack with two hits and 1 RBI. Ryan Eddy and Jayce Keeler had 2 RBIs. Luc Galvani, Tyler Prout, James Springer and James Dewar all had hits for Grafton and scored runs. Jayce Keeler went the first five innings and allowed four earned runs and struck of nine. He was the tough luck losing pitcher. Tyler Prout pitched the sixth inning.

Game 2 vs Westfield: After three straight days of rain and postponements, Grafton played its second game on July 15 vs Westfield at Greenbrier Park in Oxford in an elimination game for both teams. Grafton would take advantage of 10 walks in the game and would beat Westfield 11-4.

Jayce Keeler would take a mound again for Grafton and he pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. With a 5-0 lead after two innings, Coach Bob Galvani pulled Keeler at 20 pitches hoping to win the game so that he would be available to pitch in the next game on Sunday. The strategy would pay off as James Springer was sharp on the mound and pitched the final five innings allowing four runs while striking out 10. Offensively, Grafton didn't pound out many hits, but James Dewar had a big two run double with the bases loaded in the fifth after Westfield intentionally walked Keeler. Luc Galvani would collect two RBIs, one on a deep fly ball to left field in the third inning. Ryan Eddy and Jackson Lee also had RBIs.

Game 3 vs Plymouth: On Sunday, Grafton would again travel to Plymouth in an elimination game for both teams. Keeler would take a mound and spin a strong performance giving up one run on four hits while striking out 11. Keeler would drill a ball to deep right field in the first inning scoring two and Grafton jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Grafton would score two more runs in the fifth inning and three insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning. CJ Zujewski was one of hitting stars going 2 for 4 with 4 RBI, Keeler would go 2 for 4, James Dewar was 2 for 3, Tyler Prout, Luc Galvani and Ryan Eddy would all go 1 for 3.

Game 4 vs Whitman: Tonight in Rockland at Rockland Stadium vs Whitman at 7:00 p.m. Grafton will be playing its third game in as many days. Good luck Grafton!!
